DENVER -- It wasn’t just men in Austin and New York who felt that being excluded from watching Diana Prince kick some butt for just two nights was sexist and unfair. Dudebros in Denver are also seething after Alamo Drafthouse Cinema announced they would host two women-only screenings of “Wonder Woman” at their Colorado theaters.

“Who run the world? GIRLS! Ladies, join us for two women only WONDER WOMAN screenings. Proceeds will go to Planned Parenthood and ACLU,” reads a message posted to the Alamo Drafthouse Denver Facebook page.

And just in case you’re wondering, the invitation extends to transgender women as well.

“There will be no ‘gender checks’ at the gate. All are welcome,” staff posted on Facebook.

The announcement did not go well with many of the men who felt this was "flying in the face of civil rights laws."

While most women rejoiced after learning the news, some were not happy the theater was donating to Planned Parenthood.

“I’d love to, if this event didn’t exclude pro-life women by donating to Planned Parenthood,” said one Facebook commenter.

In response to the national backlash, Morgan Hendrix, creative manager for the theater, told ABC News, "Providing an experience where women truly reign supreme has incurred the wrath of trolls [and] only serves to deepen our belief that we're doing something right."

The social media outage began Wednesday when Alamo Drafthouse sent out a release announcing the women-only screening.

"Apologies, gentlemen, but we’re embracing our girl power and saying 'No Guys Allowed' for one special night at the Alamo Ritz. And when we say “People Who Identify As Women Only,” we mean it. Everyone working at this screening -- venue staff, projectionist, and culinary team -- will be female," the release states.

The Alamo responded to many of the negative comments, pointing out that they have hosted screenings for select groups before, including veterans for military films, and that it's about a celebration of the Wonder Woman character, CNN reports.

Gal Gadot stars as Princess Diana of Themyscira/Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, a DC Comics character that first came on the scene in the 1940s. Since then, the character has been a superhero mainstay in comic books and had a small screen run in a 1970s series starring Lynda Carter.

“Wonder Woman” will be out in theaters nationwide June 2.

Update: The Alamo Drafthouse Denver website shows the screenings at both Sloan’s Lake and Littleton have sold out. Denver7 reached out to the cinema to see if more show times will be added. We have yet to hear back.
