TIME Magazine’s April 8 issue says same-sex marriage has "already won" and will feature two photos of same-sex couples kissing.
The covers read "Gay marriage has already won. The Supreme Court hasn’t made up its mind -- but America has."
According to the TIME website, the cover story by David Von Drehle discusses the progression of public opinion on gay marriage. In fewer than 20 years, a massive shift in public opinion has resulted in social -- and what will likely soon be political -- acceptance of same-sex marriage in America, the website says.
Though the Supreme Court will not decide if same-sex marriage will be legal for several months, the public and politicians have begun to accept gay marriage, the website says.
One cover features Sarah Kate and Kristen Ellis-Henderson, two women who were married in 2011, according to the website. The other features Russell Hart and Eric LaBonté, two men who have been engaged since 2010. On both covers, the couples are kissing.
Half of the issues released will feature the Ellis-Hendersons, and the other half will feature Hart and LaBonté, the website says.
Several same-sex couples from California and New York were photographed for the cover story and will appear in the magazine in similar photos.
"As we were driving to the shoot, I thought, 'I’m doing this because I want my kids to live boldly and loudly and see what it means to stand up for something,'" Sarah Kate Ellis-Henderson told TIME.
LaBonté says he was made fun of for being different when he was younger, according to the website.
"Now, I see high-school-aged boys walking around the mall or out in broad daylight holding hands. It’s hard to describe how that makes me feel," LaBonté told TIME.
