Steve Saunders Announces Denver City Council Bid

Former 7NEWS Anchor, Reporter Currently Communications Director For School District

Former 7NEWS anchor and reporter Steve Saunders has announced he's running for the vacant District 5 Denver City Council seat.

Saunders, who is currently employed as the director of communications for Adams County School District 50, made the announcement on his Facebook page.

Saunders said he had thought about running for Denver City Council for years, but he couldn't do it because he'd have to give up his job as a reporter. He joins Michele Fry, MaryBeth Susman and Leslie Holben Twargowski running for District 5 seat.

He said he discussed running with his family and friends.

"We feel like it is winnable, viable and there is a good base of support out there," he told Westword.

Saunders worked for Channel 7 for 11 years. He is married with four children and is the son of former Rocky Mountain News broadcasting critic Dusty Saunders.
