Colorado's snowpack level is lagging the historical average, despite a snowstorm in southern Colorado this week.

On Wednesday, the statewide snowpack was 78 percent of the 30-year average for the date. Snowpack in several river basins is below average, although the Upper Rio Grande in southern Colorado is at 102 percent of average.

The South Platte basin is at 86 percent of average. The South Platte basin is where the Denver metro area gets most of its drinking water.
