Senator Steve King, running for Mesa County sheriff, faces investigation

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A state senator running for Mesa County sheriff is under investigation for falsifying a timecard.

Republican Sen. Steve King is term-limited and is running for sheriff in his home county of Mesa.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports that the office of Arapahoe County District Attorney George Brauchler will investigate the allegation against King.

Last month, interim Mesa County Sheriff Rebecca Speiss asked the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to investigate King. King was fired from a temporary job with the sheriff's department on June 6.

King has said the time-card error was a mistake and that he has apologized.
