JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - A public memorial is planned for a Jefferson County sheriff's deputy who was killed when an SUV hit his motorcycle head-on.
The Denver Post reports friends, family and co-workers of Sgt. David Baldwin will gather at the 1stBANK Center in Broomfield at 10 a.m. Monday. Following the service, a formal vehicle procession will head to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, where a private reception will be held.
The Colorado State Patrol says the driver of the SUV was trying to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone on Highway 93 near West 64th Parkway on Jan. 26 and hit Baldwin's motorcycle.
Baldwin, a 27-year veteran of the department, was on duty and wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries.
