ASPEN, Colo. - The late singer John Denver is being honored ahead of the 15th anniversary of his death.

The events begin Thursday with a recital of Denver's stories and songs at Aspen's Wheeler Opera House.

Denver moved to the Roaring Fork Valley in the late 1960s and celebrated the Aspen area in such songs as "Rocky Mountain High." He died Oct. 12, 1997, when the plane he was piloting crashed into California's Monterey Bay.

According to the Aspen Times, the tributes will continue Friday and Saturday.
