EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. -- A man traveling with his wife from California to Iowa was found a day after he was reported missing.

Byron and Geraldine Winston were traveling from San Bernardino, Calif., to Ottumwa, Iowa, on Saturday when Byron, 78, became disoriented during the trip. The couple stopped at the Loaf-n-Jug in Eagle County, and his wife was able to flag an officer who offered some help. Winston was soon cleared by paramedics, according to an official with the Vail Police Department.

After police and paramedics left the scene at around 6:40 a.m., Winston left his wife at the Loaf-n-Jug.

Police said Winston suffered from dementia and was possibly driving eastbound on I-70 en route to I-76 and I-80 in a beige Cadillac with Iowa plates HUG-HII toward their final destination.

Winston was found by police. His family was notified and he is safe, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
