COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The first baby born in Colorado in 2016 arrived while New Year's Day revelers were still blowing party horns and shooting off fireworks.
Cora Menges was born at UCHealth's Memorial Hospital North in Colorado Springs at exactly 12:00 a.m., according to a spokesperson from the hospital.
"We had joked about it all day - that maybe she'll be born on the 31st of December for a tax deduction," said proud mother Hanna Menges.
Cora weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 21 inches long. She is healthy.
According to our partners at The Denver Post, Minnesota native Micah Menges, the baby girl's father, said they don't have any expectations for their daughter, except one: "She better be a Packers fan."

The competition's tough to become the first baby of the New Year.
Just ten minutes after the fireworks went off in Downtown Denver, Jaxton Wayne Kitchin was born at Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora.
Jaxton weighed 5 pounds, 4 ounces and was 17.5 inches long, according to Children's Hospital Colorado spokesperson Hollon Kohtz.
The baby and the rest of the family are doing well, Kohtz said.
Four hours later, at 4:01 a.m. at the University of Colorado Hospital, a Centennial family welcomed Adanelly Lopez. Weighing 6 pounds, 9 ounces, Adanelly will be joining her three brothers and one sister at their home really soon.
