ERIE, Colo. - Authorities have arrested four people suspected of starting a fire that destroyed playground equipment at an elementary school in Erie.
The Daily Camera reports Erie police arrested 18-year-old Santino Maryland and three juveniles, two of them 17 and one of them 16, Thursday on charges of second-degree arson. All four suspects are from Erie.
Police say the fire was reported at Black Rock Elementary School at about 5 a.m. June 18. The fire, which was deliberately set, was contained to the playground. No injuries were reported.
"Upon arrival, firefighters found flames 50 feet high and quickly extinguished the fire," according to fire officials. "The fire caused about $50,000 in damage."
The St. Vrain Valley School District says replacement equipment has been ordered and should be in place before school starts.
