Two soldiers from Colorado Springs were arrested by federal agents this weekend in connection with a murder-for-hire plot as part of an elaborate drug trafficking ring officials said they helped run.

Kevin Corley, 29, and Samuel Walker, 28, were taken into custody during a raid by Drug Enforcement Administration agents in Laredo, Texas, reported the Colorado Springs Gazette.

The undercover DEA agents were finalizing details for a contract killing just before the suspects were arrested.

Agents also arrested Shavar Davis, 29, of Denver. A fourth man, Jerome Corley, was shot and killed by DEA agents as they tried to arrest him, reported the San Antonio Express-News.

According to a criminal complaint, the undercover DEA agents were investigating drug smugglers from South Carolina and were introduced to the Corleys, Walker and Davis.

The four men told the DEA agents, who they thought were members of the Zetas drug cartel, they would raid a ranch controlled by a rival drug trafficking gang in exchange for $50,000. When the four arrived Saturday in Laredo, agents moved in and arrested them.
