A former marshal in the southwestern Colorado town of Mancos has pleaded guilty to his second drunken-driving offense.

The Durango Herald reports 55-year-old John Cox pleaded guilty Tuesday and faces 10 days in jail or home detention when he is sentenced April 26.

He was off-duty when he lost control of his pickup and slid into a guardrail near the La Plata-Montezuma county line in November. The Colorado State Patrol and the district attorney's office declined to release his blood-alcohol content Tuesday, saying they wanted to wait until after sentencing.

Cox was hired as a deputy marshal in August 2012 and was promoted in April 2013.

He was convicted of a drunken-driving charge in Indianapolis in 2009 while working as a police chief for a county school system.
