Body of bank robbery suspect Jeffrey Cathcart found in Arkansas River near Runyon Lake

PUEBLO, Colo - Pueblo Police have identified a body found Monday morning in the Arkansas River near Runyon Lake as a bank robbery suspect.

The body was spotted and reported Sunday evening, but water rescue crews were not successful in finding it until Monday morning, police said. In the end, they found the body of Jeffrey Cathcart, 40, snagged on a shallow point in the middle of the river

"The recovery site was not far from the spillway where Cathcart dove into the water and was last seen," police wrote in a news release.

When the rescue crew retrieved the body, they also found the exact amount of cash stolen from the Security Service Federal Credit Union on the 300 block of Abriendo Avenue Thursday afternoon.

After the robbery, police chased the suspect until he jumped into the river. Before disappearing into the water, Cathcart had allegedly taunted police.

Police had previously identified Cathcart using a photo taken as he shouted at them from beside the river. At that time, they announced that local parole officers had helped to confirm Cathcart was wanted for a parole violation and an alleged robbery at a grocery store in the area.
