COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A carjacker armed with a screwdriver stole a father's car on Tuesday morning before sunrise.

The father told police he was dropping his 10 year old off at his ex-wife's apartment at 4:35 a.m. in Colorado Springs when someone started banging on the window of his car.

The man said he quickly took his child to a nearby apartment to get the child out of harms way, according to Colorado Springs Police.

The man told officers that when he got back to his vehicle, the car thief was starting to drive off in the dad's car.

The father reached in the broken window of the car and grabbed the carjacker by the jacket, but the carjacker stabbed the dad in the hand with a screwdriver and got away, police said.

Officers said the carjacker was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, 5-feet 8-inches tall with a heavy goatee, a gray beanie cap and a multi-colored sports jacket.
