Pregnant Loveland Woman Shot To Death Identified

'It Was An Accident,' Neighbor Quotes Husband As Saying

A pregnant Loveland woman found shot to death in her home Tuesday has been identified.

The Larimer County Coroner's Office identified her as Kelly Burgess. The coroner's office was still investigating the cause of her death but police called her death "unintended."

Police were called to the home, at 2550 Gilpin Court, at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A neighbor said that he went to the house after being alerted that something was wrong and found the woman's husband, Brandon Burgess, lying on the floor, crying.

Josh Daniels said that he went inside and found a woman's body in the garage. She had an apparent gunshot wound to the head, although he didn't see a gun.

"Her body and the wound that saw -- it was evidence to me that it was a gunshot wound," Daniels told reporters outside the house. "It was absolutely horrible."

He said Brandon Burgess was screaming, "It was an accident, it was an accident."

Daniels said Kelly was two to three months pregnant.

Burgess was questioned by police and released.

A 2-year-old son was in the home at the time of the incident but wasn't injured.
