DENVER (AP) — State records show an oil and gas industry group donated $1 million to support a measure on the November ballot that would make it harder to amend the Colorado constitution.
Colorado Public Radio reported Tuesday the donation came from a group called Protecting Colorado's Economy, Environment and Energy Independence.
The group had been campaigning against proposed ballot measures that would impose new restrictions on the industry, but officials say those measures didn't attract enough valid signatures to get on the ballot.
The industry group is now backing a proposal that would require voter-approved constitutional amendments to pass by 55 percent, up from 50 percent.
It would also require signatures of 2 percent of the registered voters in each of the state's 35 state Senate districts to put amendments on the ballot.
