DENVER -- For the first time this election, Colorado stands out as one of the most heavily-contested states in the country.

A newly-released CNN/ORC poll shows Hillary Clinton's once double-digit lead in Colorado has not only been erased, but she now finds herself in a one point deficit.

The poll shows Trump holding onto 42 percent, compared to Clinton's 41 percent of the vote.

“It can either be 270-266 Clinton or it could be 275-263 Trump, and that all depends on what happens here. So I think in realistic terms it's probably here, New Hampshire, maybe a little bit of Pennsylvania," said Steve House, the Chairman for the Republican Party of Colorado.

“I think that everyone who's been following this race for some time knew that this was going to be a race that tightened up and the closer that we get to Election Day -- I mean, it's Colorado, we're a swing state,” said Rick Palacio, the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Colorado.

And according to the CNN poll, it's not terrorism, illegal immigration or foreign policy that is driving Colorado voters.

Instead, it’s the economy.

The CNN poll details that most believe Trump can best handle the economy, while Clinton is the best person to handle foreign policy issues.

“Hillary Clinton is focused on making sure that this is an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top. And what you're looking at with Donald Trump, with the few ideas that he's thrown out, there is just more of the same trickle-down economics that put us into the Great Recession," said Palacio.

“When the economy isn't growing, when wages aren't growing, when you're shutting down big jobs on the western slope, people in this state look at it and say, 'Hey, I don't want this anymore. I want something different,'” said House.

And with Colorado lining up to be a big battleground state come November, the razor-thin margin puts Colorado back in the presidential bulls-eye.
