DENVER -- The Colorado Secretary of State's Office says Colorado residents can now get registered to vote by starting with a text message.

Smartphone users can text "Colorado" or "CO" to "2Vote" to receive a message containing a link to the secretary of state's voter registration website, according to the Denver Post.

Coloradoans already registered to vote can also use the new technology tool to update their address, change parties or check the status of their ballot after they've voted.

To vote in the state, a person must be 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a Colorado resident who has lived in the state for at least 22 days before the election they want to vote in.
