DENVER -- Small business owners in Denver say they are optimistic about the future.

“You know what the economy is looking like here in Denver, business owners are feeling optimistic that they’re in a strong place,” said Michelle Colaizzi told Denver7’s Nicole Brady on this weekend’s Politics UnpluggedColaizzi owns her own Allstate insurance agency here in the metro area.

After surveying small businesses across the country, Allstate recently released their Small Business Barometer.

The national average is 58 out of 100. Denver’s average is just a little bit higher at 60.

“When you’re a small business owner you can be more innovative,” Colaizzi said. “If the business is running the way you should be and you have less things pulling you away, you can be more innovative and provide goods and services to your customers that you might not do in trying times.”

Denver small business owners rated the city as “strong” for innovation (71) and capital (71); “solid” when it comes to customers, labor, technology and regulation; but just “fair” when it comes to commodities (25).

The highest rating went to optimism, where Denver got a rating of 97.
