DENVER -- There is someone new in charge of Colorado’s Republican party.
Jeff Hays took over as chair of the state GOP earlier this month. One of the biggest challenges ahead is convincing Colorado voters to elect just their second republican governor in 42 years.
“We sense an opportunity and we’ve already got some talented people who are entering the race,” Hays told Anne Trujillo on this week’s Politics Unplugged. “It’s really up to the republican electorate, plus those unaffiliated voters that decide to vote in our primary thanks to Proposition 108. Those are the ones who are going to decide who they want to represent them.”
Hays thinks President Donald Trump needs to focus on issues that are appropriate on the national level that are both international and interstate in scope. He says the president has done well in his first 100 days.
“He’s following through with his message that he ran on during the campaign and I think he has been very effective in continuing to try to push that agenda, whether it’s national security issues or economic issues, I think that’s resonating with the American people,” Hays said.
