DENVER -- President Donald Trump and Democrats are closing in on a deal that would protect hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants from deportation.
But the parameters of that deal, including a potential pathway to citizenship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) participants and funding for Trump’s campaign promise to build a wall along the US-Mexico border, are still up in the air two days after the deal was announced.
“I think it’s another instance of this administration playing politics with our lives,” Dreamer Cristian Solano-Cordóva told Anne Trujillo on this week’s Politics Unplugged. “It seems like when one side announces some sort of deal and the next morning the other side is tweeting something completely opposite, so it’s just constantly mixed signals.”
Immigration attorney James Lamb says he thinks the President will face a lot of backlash from Republicans if he agrees to the deal with the Democrats.
“[Trump is] already is facing quite a backlash,” he said when talking about the potential deal. “We’ll have to see whatever legislative compromise comes out. “Often the devils in the details and what gets tacked on with the DACA reform could be something that’s a bitter pill for democrats for swallow.”
