Construction defects, oil and gas tampering, diapers all on the legislative agenda

DENVER -- Colorado lawmakers are trying to take a different approach to bills that take on construction defects. Instead of a big 'defect package' as has been killed in past sessions, this year there are about a half dozen bills that take on smaller issues.

"Unfortunately, they don’t seem to be drawing the bipartisan support from outside the capitol that even some are gaining inside the capitol," Colorado Independent capitol reporter Marianne Goodland told Anne Trujillo on this week's Politics Unplugged. "You have a bill that came out this week from Sen. Angela Williams that eats away at this one small portion about HOA representation and who gets to sue on behalf of homeowners and the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce almost immediately said ‘we don’t like this.’”

Goodland said lawmakers are also considering a bill that would change the crime of tampering with oil and gas equipment from a misdemeanor to a felony. She says the environmental community says the bill is a move to shut down peaceful protests.

One bill Goodland says is getting some attention is the "diaper bill" that would make diapers exempt from sales tax.
