DENVER – A few days after the end of the 2018 session of the Colorado legislature, leaders on both side of the aisle say they are proud of what they were able to accomplish.
“We did get a lot done,” Senate President Kevin Grantham, R-Canon City, told Anne Trujillo on this week’s Politics Unplugged. “We set out from day one to get some things accomplished when it came to roads and transportation. Rural broadband is something we’ve all been talking about for years along with transportation.”
“It was great seeing Republicans and Democrats coming together to put partisanship aside, put politics aside, and to really do what is right for the people of Colorado,” House Speaker Crisanta Duran, D-Denver, added.
As productive as it was, there are still things both leaders say there are things that could be improved upon.
Speaker Duran says too often politics get in the way of progress. President Grantham thinks there could be even better communication between the parties and the chambers of the House and Senate.
“Over the last two sessions I think leaders from both parties have had the courage to come forward with solutions to a variety of different issues,” Duran said.
“We communicated and we got things done,” Grantham said. “If I had things to tweak it would be better communications so we could get even more done.”
