A deputy with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Saturday on charges of domestic violence and menacing with a gun.

Aurora police spokeswoman Sgt. Cassidee Carlson confirmed that 34-year-old Wendy Hansen was taken into police custody in connection with an incident that happened in the early morning hours of Aug. 22. in the 23700 block of East Whitaker Drive. Police were first informed of the incident on Friday evening.

Carlson said officers found probable cause to make an arrest. Hansen was arrested at the home on East Whitaker Drive without incident. She was being held without bond.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said Hansen had been suspended without pay during the investigation.

Hansen was hired by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in 2002, Robinson said. She was working as a senior deputy in the jail.

Carlson said Hansen was being held in the Jefferson County Jail because of the conflict with her position in Arapahoe County.

According to court documents, Hansen was previously arrested in Fort Collins in 1995 on DUI charges. She pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of driving while ability impaired.
