A training exercise at the Yuma County courthouse in November left walls with dents and splatters of pink paint, according to the Yuma Pioneer.

The newspaper said the active shooter training on Nov. 20 involved 32 officers from the Yuma County Sheriff's Office, Wray Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Office and Colorado State Patrol.

Carpets, floors and doors from the basement to the top floor were damaged by the ammunition, called "simunitions" since its simulates real ammunition, the newspaper said.

Outgoing Yuma County Sheriff Sam McCoy said he noticed the wall dents during the training exercise, but figured since there already were dents he had to fix, it would not hurt if there were more of them, so he keep going.

McCoy said his department spent two hours cleaning up after the training.

McCoy is leaving soon for Afghanistan, Sheriff-elect Chad Day said he was not invited to participate in the training exercise.
