An epidemiologist studying the culture of a Metro State student who died suddenly had found no evidence of meningococcal disease, said Mark Salley, spokesman for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, on Sunday.

Salley said it is unlikely that further lab tests will confirm the disease as the cause of the student’s death.

State officials suspected the disease as a possible cause after the student died suddenly. They said they investigated that possibility as a measure to protect the public.

Metro State staff also notified students of the possibility as a precaution.
