PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Facing a lonely weekend in the White House without his family, President Barack Obama arranged a golf outing with some of his buddies in Florida, on President's Day weekend.
After a speech Friday in Chicago, Obama flew to West Palm Beach, then was then driven nearly an hour to Palm City and into the gated Floridian Yacht and Golf Club. The exclusive resort will be Obama's home away from home until he returns to Washington on Monday.
Eyebrows might have been raised at the thought of Obama high-tailing it out of Washington, without his family, for some "me time." His wife and daughters are on an annual ski trip in Aspen. She skied at Buttermilk on Saturday, the Aspen Daily News reported.
Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo told the newspaper he has loaned seven deputies to help protect the first lady and her family.
“This is not state visit. ... I think she has the right and privilege to be able to escape from public life,” he said. “It’s a privilege to have the first lady here.”
Sources told the Daily News that she is staying at the home of Jim and Paula Crown, owners of the Aspen Skiing Co.
