Jobs that are seeing pay increases year after year

We'd all love to get a raise. But it's not happening for a lot of us right now. So we found out which types of jobs are actually going against this trend.

Right now, it’s a great time to be a barista. Their salary has gone up nearly 6 percent in the last year. But, they’re not the only ones seeing a pay raise.

Judy Gervasini of J Kent Staffing says, while many jobs are seeing wage increases, the growth is still at a snail’s pace.

“It’s unfortunate because profits are certainly high because of the stock market but you know employers are just hesitant to increase those wages.”

Glassdoor reports the median salary for full time workers is $51,491. That means there was less than a 2 percent wage increase since last year.

Gervasini says, “3 percent salary increases right now are pretty normal and it seems that pattern has persisted for the last 6 years.”

Even though our wage growth isn’t the best, there are still jobs doing better than others. Take a truck driver. Their annual wage went up 5 percent. The average salary is now $52,280.

Another job seeing growth is a recruiter. Their average salary is now $50,491. That’s up 4.8 percent in the last year.

Also, a store manager’s wage growth is up 3.5 percent from 2016. Their average salary is $48,701.

Some other jobs seeing progress are pharmacy technicians and web designers.

Gervasini says, just because a job has a high pay growth, does not mean it has the highest earning potential. For instance, a pharmacist might make over $100,000 a year, but their wage growth only went up 0.4 percent over the past year.
