GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) -- The Bureau of Land Management is reorganizing and changing its field office in Grand Junction from the northwest Colorado district to the southwest district.

Colorado BLM spokesman Steven Hall says the northwest district is too big and already has field offices in the Colorado River Valley based in Silt, Grand Junction, a White River office in Meeker, the Little Snake office in Craig and another in Kremmling.

Local officials say the Grand Junction area has economic ties to oil and gas development that can be better addressed by the office in Grand Junction.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports (http://tinyurl.com/z7sswxq ) the reorganized southwest district will include the Grand Junction field office, the Uncompahgre office based in Montrose and the Tres Rios office in Dolores.
