ESTES PARK, Colo. - Bear Lake Road reopened in Rocky Mountain National Park Tuesday, after being closed by the Fern Lake Fire.

The outlook on the wildfire has changed dramatically in the past 12 days as cold, snowy conditions have it smoldering. On Dec. 1, winds pushed the wildfire out of control and forced evacuations.

Now, containment is estimated at 88 percent and fire officials estimate they will have full containment Full by Dec. 31.

The latest mapping of the fire shows 3,498 acres burned in Rocky Mountain National Park, west of Estes Park.
