ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — As Aspen officials are considering passing water restrictions due to low snowpack levels, they have asked residents to do their part and reduce water use by 10 percent.

The Aspen Times reports that on Tuesday, city council agreed to announce that “stage one” water shortage conditions exist.

A formal resolution will follow next week.

During the first phase of the water restrictions, residents will be urged to reduce their water use by 10 percent. Officials recommend residents water their properties only at night and take up odd/even watering days based on their addresses.

Water conservation efforts for residents are voluntary.

Margaret Medellin, the city’s utilities portfolio, says there will be a mandatory 10 percent reduction for the municipal government’s public properties.
