SILVERTHORNE, Colo. - An 11-year-old boy was killed Thursday morning when he was ejected during a pickup truck crash in snowy conditions on Interstate 70 near Silverthorne, authorities said.
Colorado State Trooper Josh Lewis said the blue pickup was involved in a one-vehicle crash on eastbound I-70 near mile marker 208 at about 9 a.m.
The boy, identified Jasiel Blanco Estrada of Avon, was thrown from the truck, Lewis said. He was taken to St. Anthony's Medical Center in Frisco, where he was pronounced dead an hour later.
Another passenger, a 69-year-old, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The pickup driver, Jasiel's 42-year-old father, was unharmed.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The two left lanes of eastbound I-70 EB were closed during the investigation but reopened about 4 hours later.
Weather is believed to have been a factor in the crash, Lewis said.
