SAN DIEGO - A baby girl was born along a San Diego freeway early Wednesday morning, surprising mom and dad with her fast arrival in to the world.
Eric and Aubrianne Scheldt were on their way to the hospital when mom's water suddenly broke and the baby started coming. And the newborn didn't waste any time -- the couple said by the time mom said "the baby's coming," and grabbed dad's arm, the baby's cries could already be heard.
Dad delivered his baby girl and then held her in one arm while driving with the other to get his family to the hospital. Once there, dad honked the horn to get someone's attention.
Both mom and baby -- who weighed in at 9 pounds, 2 ounces -- are doing well. They are resting comfortably at Scripps Memorial Hospital.
The couple have been married for 5 years and this is their first child. They've named her Iona.
