Tory Lowery, 33, failed to return home after a mountain-biking trip through the canyon Monday.

The search began at 10:30 p.m. Monday and he was found shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday. He said he had some mechanical problems with his bicycle and was found by rescuers, walking out one of the trails toward Waterton Canyon.

Lowery's family said he was physically fit and knew the canyon very well.

Searchers from Jefferson and Douglas counties participated in the search, since the South Platte River forms the boundary between the two. They were aided by helicopters and all-terrain vehicles.
