Man's Body Found On Mt. Zion, Outside Golden

Jeffco Sheriff's Office Investigating

A man's body was discovered Wednesday afternoon off Lariat Loop Road leading to Lookout Mountain.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office had deputies at the location and recovery crews could be seen on the side of Mount Zion with a body just below the roadway, high above Clear Creek Canyon and U.S. Highway 6.

The body was spotted at 3:20 p.m. by two bicyclists who stopped at the curve to rest and saw it below the guard rail.

The body had not been recovered, as of 5 p.m. Deputies taped off the pullout on the curve above the body and closed the road to traffic. The road was expected to remain closed for several hours while the investigation continued.

Mount Zion is just west of Golden and is the mountain with the large, white "M" on the east flank. It connects to Lookout Mountain to the south.
