Man Found With Gun At DIA Arrested

Security Screeners Find Gun In Carrying Case

A local man faces felony charges for carrying a gun at Denver International Airport.

Robert James Smith, 49, was arrested at the airport Monday after airport security screeners found a .38-caliber handgun in his laptop computer case, 7NEWS reported.

Smith says he forgot he was carrying the gun.

Smith, who was trying to catch a United Airlines flight, was being held without bail for investigation of carrying a firearm into a public transportation facility.

Denver jail officials would not allow him to be interviewed.

"It's a very serious offense even if it was just an accident," police spokeswoman Virginia Lopez said.
