Xcel works to cap natural gas leak on 17th Avenue near Broadway in downtown Denver

Gas lane work closes streets in the area

DENVER - Xcel Energy spent much of Monday capping a gas leak on 17th Avenue between Broadway and Lincoln after a high-pressure line was ruptured, a Denver fire spokesman said.

Fire spokesman Mark Watson said he did not know how the line was damaged. Xcel crews were working to cap the leak.

Fire officials came the location at about 7:30 p.m. to monitor the air quality as a precaution, Watson said.

Repairs forced the closure of Broadway at 18th Avenue and 17th Street at Tremont Place.
