Fill-in bus driver blamed for going wrong way in HOV lane; RTD bus gets stuck on Interstate 25

DENVER - A fill-in driver was ticketed for driving a RTD bus the wrong way in the HOV lane on Interstate 25 in Denver Tuesday morning.
The northbound bus was pulled over near the Interstate 70 interchange during the morning commute.
The I-25 express lanes were closed between U.S. 36 and downtown Denver for about half an hour so that crews could drive the bus off the highway.
Police say motorists were lucky there was no accident when the bus drove head-on into rush-hour traffic on I-25.
The driver pulled over and traffic was able to get by.
RTD spokesman Scott Reed told 7NEWS the driver is new and was filling in on the route this morning. The driver finished his training in December.
Denver Police said the driver was ticketed for careless driving and driving the wrong way.
Reed said the driver will be suspended during RTD's internal investigation.
RTD is also looking into changing the bus entrance to the HOV lanes from downtown Denver.
When the lanes are closed, the sign is blank. Reed told 7NEWS that RTD is working with an engineer to change that.
