DENVER (AP) — A new state report shows Colorado saw a decline in the total number of workplace fatalities in 2015 from the previous year, while construction-related deaths increased by 62 percent.
The Denver Post reports (http://dpo.st/2kOdptO ) the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment says 75 workers died on the job in 2015, down from 84 in 2014. The majority of those deaths were related to transportation.
Deaths among construction workers jumped from 13 in 2014 to 21 in 2015.
The report released Monday says eight government workers died in 2015, while five workers in agriculture and related industries died.
Twenty of the 75 deaths resulted from falls, slips and trips, while nine were caused by contact with objects and equipment. Eight deaths resulted from workplace violence, including six that were self-inflicted.
