Woman pulled over by police impersonator in Loveland

LOVELAND, Colo. - Loveland Police are looking for a police impersonator who pulled over a woman early Sunday morning.

A woman called police at 12:10 a.m. and said she had been pulled over in the area of McWhinney Boulevard and Grays Peak Drive by a man who was acting suspiciously.  The vehicle that stopped her was an SUV with a red light displayed to the front.  The woman learned the man was not a police officer and drove off. 

Police confirmed the suspect was not a police officer and he has not been located. 

Anyone who saw these vehicles in the area at that time or can provide any additional information is asked to contact Detective Patrick Musselman at 970-962-2032.

Here are some safety tips if you are unsure if you are being stopped by a police officer.

  • Stop in a well-lit area. 
  • Call 911 if you believe the person that is stopping you isn’t a police officer.
  • If the person isn’t in uniform, ask to see their police credentials.
  • Ask for a business card.
