Woman killed in Douglas County lightning strike identified

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. – Douglas County officials confirmed Monday the identity of the 37-year-old woman killed by a lightning strike over the weekend.

Laura Miller was with a horse and a 15-year-old girl near Sedalia Sunday afternoon when a bolt of lightning struck her and the animal. Miller and the horse were killed. The teen sustained serious injuries and was being treated for electrocution, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.

No other details, including the condition of the juvenile, were released Monday. The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the area at the time of the incident.

Miller’s Facebook page shows photos of her dressed in an U.S. Army uniform, along with several photos of her riding horses. Denver7 is working to learn more about Miller’s life an we’ll update this story when more is known.
