Woman jumps from moving vehicle during carjacking at Dollar Tree in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A woman about to go shopping at a Dollar Tree in Colorado Springs during the Super Bowl on Sunday was carjacked.

The woman told police she parked her 2010 silver Kia Rio near the shopping cart corral, in front of the Dollar Tree on South Academy Blvd. at about 5:30 p.m.

As she was parking, the woman said a man stepped up to the car and used his arm to block her from closing the door. She said another man and a woman then jumped into back seat and demanded she start driving.

The woman told police she started to back up, but one of the suspects told her to move over to the passenger seat and he got in the driver's seat.

The woman said as the car was pulling out, she opened the door and jumped because she was afraid for her life.
She landed on her stomach and said the driver sped off.

Colorado Springs Police said an officer working a special detail looking for stolen cars on Monday, spotted the Kia around 1 p.m.

Other officers were called in and arrested the driver at a King Soopers. Officers said when they went to the suspect's home, they arrested the other two suspects.

Police said Jacob Guerin, Jared Smith, and Tasha Gegelman were charged with kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
