LOVELAND, Colo. -- Jennifer Tracy never forgets her nine year-old daughter Brittany’s voice.
“Brittany had cerebral palsy and she had this very unique voice and I can still clearly hear her saying to me ‘really mom, really?’” said Tracy.
12 years ago, Tracy, her husband Brian, Brittany and their two other daughters, Amber and McKayla, were involved in a car crash. Tracy, Amber and McKayala survived, but Brian and Brittany were killed.
“That pain doesn't ever go away,” said Tracy.
Vladimir Gunin was convicted of driving drunk and causing the crash.
He was sentenced to prison.
Despite the pain, Tracy still decided to forgive the man who killed two members of her family.
“Forgiveness to me is saying I may still feel anger and pain, but I'm going to use that to do something positive," said Tracy.
Last year, she came close to sitting down with Gunin, but her request was denied due to her lack of training.
The State Department of Corrections requires a certain amount of training for victims to meet offenders.
This year Tracy is getting that training. She says her main concern is finding out if Gunin is getting his alcohol and substance abuse treatment after being on a wait list for years.
If he is getting the treatment, she says she'll advocate for him to be granted parole during his next court hearing on Thursday.
