Woman charged in HOV lane wrong-way fatal crash

DENVER - A 27-year-old woman accused of causing a fatal crash in the Interstate 25 HOV lanes, north of Park Avenue, was formally charged Thursday.
Rebecca Maez was charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault driving while under revocation -- alcohol related offense.
The charges accuse Maez of driving drunk when she drove the wrong direction in the HOV lanes in the early morning hours of August 31 and crashed into another vehicle. The crash killed 34-year-old Jennifer Friede who was a passenger in the other vehicle, and seriously injured the driver.
Maez remains in custody. Her bond is set at $80,000.
She is scheduled to appear in Denver County Courtroom 2100 on Monday at 9:30 a.m. to be formally advised of the charges.
