Winter Park Resort to stay open extra week through April 27 due to heavy snowfall

WINTER PARK, Colo. - Thanks to more than 28 feet of total snow this season and more on the way throughout April, Winter Park Resort said it will extend its 2013/2014 ski and ride season an extra week, with closing day now scheduled for April 27.

Resort officials said Winter Park has received a total of 340.5 inches of snow, well ahead of average for this time of year and just 7 inches off the historical average for snowfall in an entire season.

In March alone, more than 5 feet of snow (61.5 inches) fell at Winter Park.

Despite adding an extra week of operations, Winter Park Resort said it will still conduct its Springtopia celebration on the weekend of April 19-20, with free concerts by Big Head Todd and the Monsters and Dumpstaphunk as well as the Coca-Cola Spring Splash taking place on originally scheduled dates and times.
