Will Ferrell's 'SportsCenter' appearance as Ron Burgundy with Peyton Manning cancelled by ESPN

Shelved by conference on FSU QB Jameis Winston

Will Ferrell interviewed Denver Broncos Quarterback Peyton Manning as his Anchorman 2 character Ron Burgundy for a segment on ESPN's SportsCenter -- but it will not air Thursday as previously scheduled.

"Ron Burgundy's scheduled Thurs. appearance on @SportsCenter has been cancelled in light of the potential implications of any news from the State Attorney's press conference in Fla.," said ESPN's director of communications David Scott in a statement on Twitter. "As of this time, there is no reschedule date for Ron Burgundy."

Instead, ESPN will cover a news conference from the Florida State Attorney's office on the sexual assault allegations against Florida State University quarterback Jameis Winston.

Winston, 19, was named the ACC Player of the Year on Wednesday, and is considered the top contender for the Heisman Trophy.

ESPN previously reported that DNA belonging to Winston was found in the underwear of the accuser. A lawyer for Winston suggested the sexual encounter was consensual.
