DENVER – Wildlife officials believe they have located and killed a bear that dragged a camp staffer from his sleeping bag early Sunday morning.

The attack happened around 4 a.m. at Glacier View Ranch, a Christian camp site located northwest of Boulder in the Town of Ward.

The 19-year-old staffer, named Dylan, woke up to the bear biting his head and trying to drag him away. Fellow staffers tried to scare the bear away to save the teen's life. The animal eventually left on its own.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials said Monday that they located a 280-pound male bear on Glacier View Property and captured the animal.

Officials said they had Dylan look at the bear and they’re fairly confident it’s the one that attacked him.

Because of the attack, the bear was euthanized. Officials say it’s necessary to kill bears if they become aggressive in their search for food.

The bear is the fifth to be killed in the past week. Four bears were killed in the Durango area on Wednesday.
