Wildlife official dies in freak horse-riding accident

An officer with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Division has died after a horse-riding accident near Craig.
Bill de Vergie, the area wildlife manager for the division's Meeker office, tells The Denver Post (http://bit.ly/19GHe83 ) 42-year-old Jon "Jon" Edward Wangnild was riding a horse he was considering buying Thursday when the animal fell on top of him.
Wangnild was taken to a Craig hospital and was later flown to Denver Health Medical Center, where he died.
De Vergie says Wangnild, who was off-duty at the time of the accident, was an experienced rider and worked in the Meeker office for 11 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. July 2, 2013, at the Meeker United Methodist Church
