LAKEWOOD, Colo. - A Department of Motor vehicle office was closed Monday after a white, powdery substance was found in the mail.

Officials with the Department of Revenue told 7NEWS the substance was found in a zipper-like bag inside a manila envelope mailed to the DMV office on Pierce Street.

The southern part of the building and the public area were evacuated.

Gary Armstrong with West Metro Fire told 7NEWS his department tested the substance and it tested negative for proteins.

That means it's not considered dangerous.

Armstrong expected the office would re-open shortly.
