Whistleblowers credited in VA discipline decisions in Fort Collins, Cheyenne

DENVER - Federal officials say whistleblowers contributed to a Veterans Affairs Department decision to seek disciplinary action against six employees in Colorado and Wyoming accused of manipulating health care data.

The VA said Tuesday it proposed unspecified action against supervisors and workers at the VA Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and a clinic in Fort Collins, Colorado.

They include Cheyenne Medical Center Director Cynthia McCormack and Rocky Mountain Network Director Ralph Gigliotti.

Neither immediately responded to messages seeking comment. The other employees' names weren't released.

The independent Office of Special Counsel says whistleblowers provided information that led to the VA's proposals. Special Counsel Carolyn Lerner called the whistleblowers courageous and applauded the VA's decision.

The VA didn't say what data were manipulated, but an investigation found some offices falsified appointment records.
